AML in young adults1

Just like knowing subtypes is important to determining prognosis, an AML patient’s age is also an important factor in helping to determine risk and treatment.

Generally, patients younger than 40 respond well to treatment. Better response may be because younger AML patients are more likely to have certain chromosome abnormalities that are associated with a more favorable prognosis. Patients less than OR younger than 40 years may have fewer medical conditions that would get in the way of receiving more intense chemotherapy regimens.

Support for AML patients under 40

Depending on age and quality of health, and of course AML subtype, treatment will differ for adults under 40 who are at a different stage in life than older adults with AML. Yet, no matter what age, it is important to find support for you and your family. Servier has collected a number of resources specific to supporting younger adults with cancer.
